Our Complete Blood Count (CBC) test, usually referred to as Full Blood Count (FBC), basically consists of measurement of the following: White Blood Cell count (WBC) and differential count (Neutrophil, Lymphocyte, Monocytes, Eosinophils, Basophils – both absolute count and percent), Red Blood Cell count (RBC), Hemoglobin, Hematocrit (often referred to as PCV), Red Blood Cell indices (Mean corpuscular volume – MCV, Mean corpuscular hemoglobin – MCH, Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration – MCHC, and Red blood cell distribution width – RDW). Others are Platelet count and Mean Platelet Volume (MPV). To perform this test you will need to visit your laboratory of choice for the collection of a Blood sample.
A complete blood count (CBC), also known as a complete blood cell count, full blood count (FBC), or full blood examination (FBE), is a blood panel that gives information about the cells in a person's blood, such as the cell count for each cell type and the concentrations of various proteins and minerals.
The CBC and differential count are a series of tests of the peripheral blood that provide a tremendous amount of information about the hematologic system and many other organ systems. Serial WBC count and differential counts have both diagnostic and prognostic value. They are inexpensively, easily, and rapidly performed as a screening test.
Abnormally high or low counts may indicate the presence of many forms of disease, and hence blood counts are among the most commonly performed blood tests in medicine, as they can provide an overview of a patient's general health status. A CBC is also routinely performed during annual physical examinations.
Complete blood counts are done to monitor overall health, to screen for some diseases, to confirm a diagnosis of some medical conditions, to monitor a medical condition, and to monitor changes in the body caused by medical treatments.
